Chemical products provide many benefits to society and must be managed in a responsible way to minimize any adverse effects on humans and the environment. Evonik employees take this responsibility very seriously. We work hard to ensure that our products are manufactured, stored, transported, used, disposed and recycled in a manner that shows high regard for human health, safety and environmental stewardship.
As a company committed to the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care® initiative and the Global Chemicals Management Policy, Evonik demonstrates this by having:
- A documented process for characterizing and managing product risk, and a summary of the process that is available to the public.
- A process to communicate the results of the risk characterization and management process in an effort to facilitate public knowledge.
Evonik has committed to participate in the Global Product Strategy, an agreement among many global chemical companies intended to enhance stewardship practices for chemicals. Our commitment includes publishing Product Stewardship Summaries to allow the public to become better informed about the chemicals used by our company. These summaries and information are metrics which are measured and tracked as a part of our Responsible Care Management System®, and reported annually to the American Chemistry Council, which makes its members' performance publicly available.
These summaries are intended to give general information about the chemical (or categories of chemicals) addressed. They are not intended to provide an in-depth discussion of health and safety information. Additional information is available through the relevant Safety Data Sheet, which should be consulted before use of the chemical. The Product Stewardship Summaries do not replace required communication documents such as the Safety Data Sheet or Labels.
The summaries include information describing some of the uses of each chemical or category of chemicals, physical property information, potential environmental, safety or health (EHS) effects from exposure to the chemical or class of chemicals, and how to obtain information on risk management practices. In the context of these documents, the term “risk” refers to the possibility of an EHS effect being realized due to an exposure. It is important to note that through effective risk management practices, which are often actions taken to reduce or eliminate exposures to chemicals, the potential effects described on each of these documents are much less likely to occur.
