Evonik Goldschmidt Hopewell Site Works More Than 2 1/2 Million Hours Safely

Employees at Evonik Goldschmidt, one of the largest employers in the Hopewell area, have achieved an extraordinary safety milestone – working more than 2 1/2 million hours without a day-away-from-work case.

The record was achieved because safety is a way of life at Evonik’s Hopewell facility, explained Dr. Reinhold Brand, President of Evonik Goldschmidt Corporation, which is part of one of the world’s leading specialty chemicals companies.

“Not only is safety one of Evonik’s core values, but it is a part of every decision we make,” Dr. Brand continued. “Each employee is committed to safety in all aspects of our operations and facilities. Safety is the essential element because everyone benefits - our employees and their families, our customers, and the communities where we work, live and play. Our goal is to send every employee home safely every day.”

Philip Munson, site manager at Evonik Goldschmidt’s Hopewell plant, said the company and employees work relentlessly to prevent accidents and injuries. “You could say we have an obsession with safety, which is integrated into everything we do,” said Munson. “No job is so important and no activity so urgent, that we cannot take the time to perform all work safely each day.”

Evonik’s unwavering commitment to safety has led to this significant achievement, points out Russell B.
