Evonik Degussa Donates $5,000 To Belpre, Ohio Rotary Club
Proceeds To Fund College Scholarships, Community Service Projects
Evonik Degussa Corporation, one of the city’s major employers, has donated $5,000 to the Belpre Rotary Club.
The donation is in advance of the Club’s annual golf tournament at Oxbow Golf Course scheduled on Saturday, May 8. Evonik is the major sponsor of the event.
“I’ve been a member of Belpre Rotary Club for five years now,” says Tom Gibbs, Belpre Rotary Club President, “Evonik and Plant Manager Donnie Loubiere have consistently supported our major fundraising efforts. Donnie certainly sets a great example for other area business leaders in demonstrating how local business can work as a partner with local organizations to better our community. The members of the Belpre Rotary Club are very thankful for Evonik’s generosity. Without this type of support, our club would be unable to complete the many public service projects we plan each year.”
For the past five years, Evonik Degussa Corporation has been the main sponsor of the Rotary Club’s tournament. “With golf team fees covering the major costs of holding the tournament, corporate contributions such as those from Evonik represent the majority of the ‘profit’ from the fundraiser,” said Gibbs.
Thanks to the generous donation from Evonik and other area businesses, the Belpre Rotary Club is able to sponsor college scholarships for Belpre High School and Warren High School students, fund community service projects, and provide a variety of educational opportunities for children both in Belpre and the surrounding area, said Gibbs. “Additionally, local Rotary Clubs provide donations to the Rotary International Fund, which responds to natural disasters throughout the world, as well as maintaining a focus on Rotary’s long-standing goal of eradicating polio,” he added.
Evonik’s Belpre facility makes carbon black, which is used in the manufacture of tires and rubber goods as well as ink, plastic and other applications.
