Evonik Goldschmidt Donates $1,000 To Hopewell Police Volunteers

Funds To Be Used To Purchase Safety Equipment, Other Necessities

Evonik Goldschmidt, one of the largest employers in the Hopewell area, today donated $1,000 to the Hopewell Police Volunteers for the purchase of safety equipment including additional police radios.

Warren Gerard, president of the Hopewell Police Volunteers, noted that the organization serves the citizens of Hopewell by donating time and energy to support the Hopewell Police Department.

“We are extremely grateful to Evonik Goldschmidt for this very generous donation,” said Gerard. “Faced with severe mandatory budget cuts, our Police Department must work with a smaller budget to handle a bigger job. The Police Volunteers relieve the strain on Hopewell’s sworn personnel by undertaking assignments that free them to do the duties that only they can do. We deeply appreciate this charitable donation and hope other companies in Hopewell follow Evonik Goldschmidt’s lead.”

Dr. Reinhold Brand, President of Evonik Goldschmidt Corporation - part of one of the world’s leading specialty chemicals companies - praised the work of the Hopewell Police Volunteers, adding that Evonik takes its commitment to the community seriously.

“Public safety is crucial for residents,” said Dr. Brand. “We wholeheartedly support the efforts of the Hopewell Police Department and the Hopewell Police Volunteers to protect our citizens and our way of life. Fighting crime is getting more challenging every year and budgets are getting smaller. We are very happy to help those who safeguard our way of life and our community.”

Dr. Brand, Philip Munson, site manager at Evonik Goldschmidt’s plant in Hopewell, and Russell B. Mait, director, Environmental Health Safety & Quality for Evonik’s North America Consumer Specialties unit, presented the $1,000 check to Gerard at a ceremony Friday afternoon at Evonik Goldschmidt’s facilities at 914 East Randolph Road.

“The efforts of the Hopewell Police Volunteers are commendable,” said Munson, “and we are pleased to support them in our own small way.”

Mait noted that the dedication of these Volunteers helps the Hopewell Police Department tremendously. “We all appreciate their positive efforts to make Hopewell a great community,” he added.

Added Gerard: “We appreciate Evonik Goldschmidt’s support of our program and its vital contribution to the safety and quality of life that makes the Hopewell area a more desirable place to work, play, live, and visit.”

Evonik Goldschmidt’s Hopewell plant makes ingredients for hair and skin care products, laundry detergents, fabric softeners and other products.
