Employees Work 1 Million Hours Without Lost Time Accident
Evonik Cyro’s facility in Osceola, Ark., has reached an extraordinary safety achievement: Employees at the facility have worked more than 1 million hours without a lost time accident.
A lost time accident is defined as any work-related injury or illness that results in a day away from work.
“Throughout Evonik Cyro, safety is our number one priority. Working one million hours safely is a remarkable achievement and a tribute to the quality and dedication of our Osceola employees,” said John Rolando, President of Evonik Performance Polymers North America. “Evonik is fortunate to have such a well-trained and conscientious workforce, who always put safety first. Working safely is an individual responsibility fostered and supported by the Evonik Cyro management team. This achievement in Osceola shows the dedication and professionalism of everyone on the site.”
Jim Bunn, plant manager at Evonik’s Performance Polymers Osceola facility added that employees strive to make sure everyone gets home safely each night. “Safety is the expectation for all work," said Bunn. "It is something we must all learn from the start, and I congratulate the Osceola team for doing their part to maintain that focus and achieve a notable, injury-free workplace."
Bunn noted that much of the credit for the plant’s safety milestone is due to individual performance at a personal level and also a community level. The plant has a very active employee safety based program, the Cyro Accident Prevention Process (CAPP) that provides employees a platform to observe each other and make improvements and suggestions from a safety perspective at all levels. “I would especially like to recognize our CAPP group led by Robert Jefferson,” said Bunn. The CAPP group continues to look for ways to highlight and motivate the work force towards improved safety performance. They are unceasing in their commitment to safety - as are all plant employees.”
Bunn added that despite the 1 million hours worked safely, employees are not complacent. “We don't see this achievement as an end; it's one milestone in our continuing improvement of safety performance at Evonik Cyro’s Osceola plant."
