Evonik Corporation Donates $5,000 To Horsham, Pa., Fire Department

Funding To Be Used For Hurricane Sandy Recovery Efforts

Evonik Corporation has donated $5,000 to Horsham Fire Company #1, with officials praising the department’s dedication to the community and assistance with Hurricane Sandy relief initiatives.

“Fortunately, none of our employees were injured during the storm,” said Doug Placek, president of Evonik Oil Additives USA, Inc. and Horsham site coordinator. “We appreciate the fire department’s commitment to keeping our employees and neighbors safe. Our workers have a sense of security because of their efforts. We know we can count on them if any situation arises requiring their services. We conduct annual response training with the Horsham Fire Department and are very grateful for the quality protection and care they provide.”

Hurricane Sandy, the largest tropical storm recorded in the Atlantic, made landfall in the United States on October 29 with winds of 80 mph. The death toll in the United States is more than 100. Sandy is estimated to have caused billions of dollars in property damage and lost business, making it one of the costliest natural disasters on record in the United States.

“Corporate citizenship is the cornerstone of Evonik’s operations,” said Tom Bates, president of Evonik Corporation. “Evonik is actively involved in helping make the quality of life in local communities better by participating in non-profit, charitable and community organizations. We appreciate the emergency responders’ dedication and commitment to the protection and care of our employees and neighbors. This is our chance to give back to the community.”

In recent years, Evonik has provided relief and direct rebuilding efforts following natural disasters such as hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Ike on the U.S. Gulf Coast, as well as tsunami and earthquakes in Asia Pacific.
