Evonik Corporation To Showcase VESTAMID® Terra At 2013 Bio World Congress
Bio-based Polyamide Used For Environmentally-Friendly Toothbrush Bristles
Evonik Corporation and Proveedora Mexicana de Monofilamentos (PMM) will showcase the bio-based polyamide, VESTAMID® Terra, and its applicability for toothbrush bristles during a workshop at the 10th Annual World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology in Montreal, Canada.
PMM, a leading producer of high-performance synthetics for dental hygiene products, recently teamed up with Evonik Corporation to incorporate Evonik’s bio-sourced polyamide VESTAMID® Terra into toothbrush bristles to reduce the environmental impact of its products.
The workshop, which will highlight recent trends and new product developments in bio-based polyamides, will be held on Tuesday, June 18, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Room 510 AC during the 10th Annual World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology.
“PMM is constantly seeking ways to lower the carbon footprint of our products,” said Enrique Mejia, general manager at PMM. “Evonik’s VESTAMID® Terra is made from renewable raw materials freeing us from dependence on fossil fuel-based polyamides. Using a bio-renewable material such as VESTAMID® Terra is an excellent alternative to other polyamides because it creates environmentally-friendly products while offering strong chemical resistance.”
VESTAMID® Terra is derived partly or entirely from the castor bean plant, a raw material that is not animal feed, which does not compete with that of food crops. Unlike other bio-sourced products, biopolyamide VESTAMID® Terra is a high performance polymer, so there are no restrictions on its service life and it retains impressive physical and chemical resistance properties similar to petroleum-based high performance polymers.
