Recognition Asserts Product’s Superior Heat Saving Value
Evonik Cyro LLC’s ACRYLITE® Heatstop acrylic sheet, which reduces energy consumption and serves as a “green” alternative for skylight lenses, has been awarded an honorable mention in the Architectural Products magazine’s 2011 Product Innovation Award (PIA) in the plastics category.
“The PIA recognizes products, materials and systems innovation that leads commercial and institutional design to new heights,” said Jim Crockett, Editorial Director of Architectural Products. “With judging and evaluation from a distinguished panel of 44 architects and specification specialists skilled in product evaluation, the PIA program awards manufacturers based on attributes, qualities, functionality and performance beyond industry standards. ACRYLITE® Heatstop acrylic sheet exemplifies these qualities and achieves significant environmental efficiency.”
Following this award, ACRYLITE® Heatstop acrylic sheet will be featured in the November issue of Architectural Products.
“We are honored by this recognition and it represents the advanced, energy reducing properties of ACRYLITE® Heatstop acrylic sheet that we have strived to achieve. Environmental efficiency is a key aspiration of our company and this product offers a great alternative to traditional skylight lenses by reducing heat gain and energy consumption,” said Pete Marks, New Business Development Manager, Acrylic Sheet. “The acrylic sheet reduces the amount of heat coming from acrylic dome-style skylights and lowers the internal ambient room temperature compared to conventional skylights.”
Natural sunlight illuminates the interior without causing overheating and the ACRYLITE® Heatstop acrylic sheet utilizes a propriety performance formulation that allows it to reflect considerably more incident solar radiation to limit the amount of heat that enters a building. This allows the natural light to illuminate buildings to reduce dependence on electrical lighting, making the product well suited for environmentally friendly designs.
The product not only reduces heat allowing an abundance of natural sunlight, but also achieves significant cost savings otherwise unattainable due to overheating. Studies have
shown average air conditioning costs can be lowered by as much as 33% with the utilization of ACRYLITE® Heatstop acrylic sheet as an alternative to traditional glazing materials.
