Greensboro City Council Recognizes Evonik For Community Efforts

Council Praises Company’s Donations, Efforts At Warnersville Rec Center

The Greensboro City Council has cited Evonik Stockhausen for its donations, contributions, and volunteer efforts at the city’s Warnersville Recreational Center.

City Council Woman T. Dianne Bellamy-Small told fellow Council members that Evonik approached the city to find out how the company could help residents and was told that the Warnersville Rec Center needed computers as well as Internet connections for use by students. She also praised Evonik for its continuing support of Calvin Wiley Elementary School.

Not only did Evonik Stockhausen donate money to purchase computers, said Melvin (Mel) Melton, Warnersville Center Supervisor, but the company also donated chess games to help start a chess class, sponsored the Center’s end of summer camp luncheon for 30 youth and staff and conducted two hand hygiene classes for summer camp and afterschool kids.

“We very much appreciate what Evonik Stockhausen has done for the Center,” said Melton. “Those computers are in use nearly all the time, especially by individuals who are doing their homework or research for school. We would like to extend a public thanks for the extraordinary efforts, initiative, and support of Evonik Stockhausen. I only wish other companies gave as much back to the community as Evonik does.”

Dr. Reinhold Brand, President of Evonik Stockhausen Corporation - part of one of the world’s leading specialty chemicals companies – thanked the City Council for recognizing the company’s contributions to the community and also thanked Councilwoman Bellamy-Small for guiding Evonik in the right direction.

“Evonik Stockhausen strives to be a good citizen in the Greensboro community, not only providing a great work experience for our employees, but is also seeking to make a difference in the lives of others,” said Dr. Brand. “Greensboro is the place we live, work, and play and we want to do as much as we can to make the community a better place.”

In addition to Dr. Brand, Dieter Bettinger and Jeff Davis, those in attendance at the City Council meeting included Joyce Casey, Janice Lanier, Marion Hofmann, and Ken Meyer.
