Evonik’s Mobile Site Sets 1.3 Million Hour Safety Milestone
Company Praises Workers, Continually Stresses Safety At Alabama Facility
Employees at Evonik Degussa Corporation’s Mobile, Alabama, site have achieved an extraordinary safety milestone: they have worked 1.3 million hours without experiencing a day-away-from-work case.
Thomas Bates, president of Evonik Degussa Corporation and Mobile site manager, praised employees at the site for the extraordinary safety achievement, adding that the company continues to raise the bar for workplace safety.
“Working more than one million hours safely is truly impressive,” said Bates. “This achievement shows just how serious Evonik employees are about safety. Safety is part of our culture. It is an ongoing team effort. We’re committed to it from the top down. The company works hard at reducing risk, and increasing safety education and awareness among our employees.”
The last time the site experienced a day-away-from-work case was October 14, 2008.
“Safety is at the heart of all Evonik operations,” said Randy Rogers, manager of safety and health compliance at Evonik’s Mobile site. “The company engages every employee to establish a company-wide commitment to safety. This is why they have been able to reach this milestone. Working more than one million man hours without experiencing a day-away-from-work case is a significant accomplishment for any company.”
Bates added that the Mobile site’s safety achievement is a great example of employee involvement and management's commitment to maintaining a safe and productive workplace. “I don't see this achievement as an end; it's a milestone in our continuous improvement of safety,” said Bates.
With approximately 700 workers, the Evonik Degussa Corporation Mobile site is one of the area’s largest employers. It manufactures a wide range of products that create the essentials necessary to enjoy a better standard of living today and tomorrow.
