Evonik’s Borger, Texas, Plant Observes 11 Years Without A Lost Time Accident

Employees, Management Continue To Make Safety A Top Priority

Employees at Evonik’s carbon black plant site in Borger, Texas have achieved a significant safety milestone: They have worked 1.8 million hours or 4,015 days without a lost time accident.

A lost time accident is defined as a work related injury resulting in at least one day off the job.

“Evonik is unceasing in its commitment to safety and this unwavering commitment has resulted in this significant milestone at our Borger plant,” said Jack L. Clem, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Inorganic Materials – Business Line Carbon Black. “A dedicated workforce, management commitment and strong training are the reasons for an accident free production site these last three years.”

The devoted men and women at the Borger facility are an exceptional example of how a proactive approach to safety commitment makes a difference. “Our employees strive to make safety a priority and Evonik strongly supports that initiative,” said Steven Hubertus, Borger Plant Manager. “This achievement demonstrates our commitment to safety, both our own and that of coworkers.”

To commemorate this accomplishment, employees of the facility and their families participated in a family barbeque and fun night at the local Wonderland Park as recognition for achieving the 11 year record.

“While a firm pat on the back is certainly in order, there is no room for complacency,” said Hubertus. “It is not about breaking records, but about maintaining a safe atmosphere to ensure each person goes home unharmed at the end of every shift.”

Evonik’s carbon black plant in Borger, Texas produces furnace and thermal grade carbon blacks for the pigment and rubber industries in North America.
