Evonik Silco Materials Recognized For Its Excellent Clean Water Practices

City Of Gresham Praises Evonik’s Commitment To Protecting The Environment

The City of Gresham, Ore., has commended
Evonik Silco Materials, LLC, for its outstanding industrial wastewater discharge practices.

“Companies like Evonik Silco Materials have demonstrated a continued commitment to protecting both the environment and our wastewater infrastructure,” said Paul L. Eckley, Gresham’s Wastewater Services manager. “They are an important ‘clean water’ partner.”

Evonik Silco Materials received the prestigious “Pretreatment Achievement Award” for zero violations under the company’s 2009 permit requirements. Pretreatment prevents the introduction of harmful pollutants into the sewer system, which could negatively affect the sanitary sewer and its operations or pass through the treatment plant and contaminate Oregon’s majestic, but environmentally sensitive, Columbia River.

“Evonik Silco Materials is acutely aware of the need to protect our fragile environment,” said Jack L. Clem, a Senior Vice President & General Manager within Evonik’s Inorganic Materials Business Unit and head of the Business Unit’s North American activities. “We strive each day to be a good corporate citizen. We are proud of this award and we are proud of the determination and hard work of Evonik Silco Materials employees.”

Larry Lindland, founder, chief executive officer and president of Evonik Silco Materials, said the company was honored and pleased to receive the award. “This is the second time in two years Evonik Silco Materials has received this prominent recognition,” said Lindland. “Evonik’s commitment to the environment is unswerving. Recognition by the City of Gresham of Evonik’s environmental practices is an important signal to the business community to do the right thing. Hopefully, it will serve to inspire other companies to do even more in the field of environmental enlightenment.”

Evonik Silco Materials focuses on developing and perfecting innovative ultra-high purity colloidal silica manufacturing. The company manufactures colloidal silica and ultra-high purity silica, a key component of the Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP) process in the semiconductor manufacturing industry.
