Evonik Facilities Achieve Over Three Million Hours Without Lost Time Accident
Evonik’s Mobile, Alabama, Site Continues Pursuit Of Safety Excellence
Employees at four Evonik Degussa Corporation plants at the company’s Mobile, Alabama, site, have worked more than three million hours with no Lost Time Accidents (LTA) – a work-related injury or illness resulting in time off from work.
The four include the Si69 and NPS plants, which produce vulcanizing agents used in automotive applications, specifically for rubber in tires, and the HCN and Acrolein plants, used in the manufacture of methionine, an amino acid used in animal feeds.
The Si69 plant has achieved 20 years, the HCN plant 19 years, the NPS plant 16 years, and the Acrolein plant 15 years, without a LTA.
“These tremendous safety accomplishments set the bar higher for everyone at Evonik,” said Bonnie Tully, vice president of Evonik Degussa Corporation and Mobile site manager. “I congratulate the employees at Si69, NPS, Acrolein and HCN for their personal commitment to workplace safety. At Evonik, our workers’ well-being is our highest priority and ensuring they leave work healthy is always the top consideration at our operations.”
Heiner Rieck, manufacturing director of Inorganic Materials who oversees the Si69 and NPS facilities, notes the achievement is the result of a comprehensive safety program focusing on employee protection within the organization. “Strong teamwork played a critical role in reaching these safety milestones,” added Rieck. “Working together to carefully plan and execute all activities, diligently examining all safety relevant matters and holding regular safety discussions helped us achieve these goals. It is truly remarkable to go so many years without a Lost Time Accident.”
Evonik continuously strives to enhance safety performance at each of its sites. The employees’ achievements at the four facilities in Mobile demonstrate this group-wide initiative and showcase the site’s commitment to safety and ongoing efforts to prevent work-related accidents.
“I am extremely proud of our employees and their dedication to achieving these milestones,” said Kerry Hill, manufacturing director of the Acrolein and HCN facilities. “These achievements are an excellent example of our entire staff working diligently as a team to achieve the goals of our business. The basis for these results is our shared commitment to excellence in safety attained through training, continuous improvement and mastering the technology.”
Employees at the four facilities also received the Evonik Degussa Platinum Safety Award, the company’s highest safety honor awarded for superior dedication and adherence to safe manufacturing procedures.
