Evonik Cyro’s Wallingford, Conn., Site Donates $5,000 To City Organizations
Police, Fire, Medical Services & MidState Medical Cited For Their Work
Evonik Cyro LLC, which operates a specialty plastics manufacturing facility on South Cherry Street here, today donated $5,000 to the local medical volunteer group, MidState Medical Center and the Police and Fire Services.
“Our police, fire and medical services personnel show up day in and day out, never knowing what the day might hold and never getting enough thanks for what they do,” said Peter Stein, Evonik site manager. “Yet, they still continue to put others before themselves and help save lives. They selflessly place themselves in hazardous situations that require training, endurance and genuine care for the safety of the people of Wallingford. For that we are most grateful.”
Evonik Cyro donated:
- $1,500 to the Wallingford Medical Reserve Corp., which engages volunteers to strengthen public health, emergency response, and
- $1,500 to the MidState Medical Center, the 134-bed general medical and surgical hospital in Meriden, and
- $1,000 each to the Wallingford Police Department and Wallingford Fire Services.
Wallingford Mayor William Dickinson praised the company for its generosity.
“We are very grateful to Evonik Cyro – as well as its employees – for their continuing commitment to helping our community,” said Mayor Dickinson. “We appreciate Evonik’s desire to make a difference in the lives of our citizens. Wallingford and Evonik have had a long-lasting partnership, and we are confident our close association will continue.”
Susan S. McGaughan, RN, MBA, NE-BC, MidState Medical Center, Regional Business Manager of Emergency Departments – Central Region, said that with recent state budget cutbacks, the money from Evonik was welcomed.
“We’re thrilled with the donation,” she added. “It will help us invest in additional training for our staff. But more than the money, we are gratified by the relationship we have with Evonik. It’s invaluable.”
Among those scheduled to attend Tuesday’s ceremony at the Central Fire Headquarters were Fire Chief Richard W. Heidgerd; Chief of Police William J. Wright; and, Health Department Director Eloise Hazlewood, R.S., M.P.H. from the city.
