Evonik Corporation, as part of Evonik Industries, emphasizes its acceptance of corporate responsibility and strives to meet the prevailing requirements of a worldwide enterprise as a reliable employer and partner to its suppliers and customers. Evonik has adopted Group-wide policies such as the Evonik Code of Conduct and the Global Social Policy. Fundamentally, we comply with all locally applicable laws and regulations, including those intending to eradicate slavery and human trafficking.
As part of our Global Social Policy, we respect and support the U.N.’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and do not tolerate any conduct in violation of these principles. Our Policy is also based on the respective conventions of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and we are opposed to any use of forced labor or compulsory labor and do not permit the use of child labor. Furthermore Evonik is member of the UN Global Compact (CG). By joining this organization Evonik has accepted the obligation to recognize human rights and labor standards. All our employees around the world are required to comply with the principles of the Global Social Policy, the Code of Conduct and other policies, and to actively engage against any violations. We provide employees with means to report, including a toll-free hotline in North America, any noncompliance within our company or related to our business partners.
In relation to our business partners, the Global Social Policy sets certain standards for how we do business and is intended to be an encouragement for them to join our efforts. We set standards for suppliers throughout the Group through the corporate procurement policy. We expect our suppliers and business partners to accept the principles of our policies. In addition, we have incorporated the Corporate Responsibility Strategy into our general purchasing conditions, allowing our supply chain to align more closely with the principles stated above.
Evonik conducts periodic risk assessments, whether of internal activities or of third parties, to identify any potential areas of noncompliance. We will critically examine and, if necessary, terminate within the legal framework the business relationship if evidence points to the fact that these standards have been violated. Evonik’s Internal Audit group also evaluates how our operations conform to our internal and external requirements.
All employees receive periodic training on the Group Code of Conduct and the key principles from the policies mentioned above. Our business and regions may provide additional training based on local circumstances and specific risks or issues they have identified for action.
