Plant Not Only Meets Industry Safety Standards But Exceeds Them

Employees at Evonik Corporation’s Hopewell facility, which makes ingredients for numerous consumer products, is celebrating an extraordinary achievement: working nine years without a Lost Time Accident (LTA).

“This is a rare accomplishment that many companies strive to reach but few achieve,” said David DelGuercio, head of Evonik’s Consumer Specialties business unit in the Americas. “Attaining this safety milestone proves that our employees – and Evonik – are firmly committed to safety excellence. We have established the culture in which our Hopewell employees believe that no task is worth doing without taking the time to do it safely.”

Evonik defines a Lost Time Accident as a work-related accident or injury resulting in an employee having to take time off from work.

“Safety is a core value at Evonik,” said Philip Munson, site manager at the Hopewell plant. “Choosing to work safely is the single most important job we all have to do – every task and every shift. I am immensely proud of our employees here at Hopewell for achieving this impressive safety milestone.”

Evonik’s goal is zero accidents in the workplace, which can only be achieved through the development of a high-performing safety culture and the implementation of world-class safety systems and activities, said Russell B. Mait, director, Environmental Health Safety & Quality for Evonik’s Americas Consumer Specialties Unit.

“Our employees have embraced safety as a core operating value and committed themselves to Evonik’s Guiding Principles of Safety, and I applaud all of them for their focus and dedication,” said Mait.
