Evonik Donates $5,000 To Wallingford, Conn., Emergency Response Departments

Wallingford, Conn., December 26, 2012

Evonik is donating $5,000 to four emergency response departments in the Wallingford, Conn., area – the Wallingford Fire Department, the Wallingford Police Department, the Emergency Department at MidState Medical Center, and Wallingford Medical Reserve Corps - following Hurricane Sandy’s destruction.

“During the storm, these four emergency response departments played a crucial role in everyone’s safety and assisted with the recovery efforts in Hurricane Sandy’s aftermath,” said Peter Stein, Wallingford site manager. “We are grateful for their hard work and dedication, and would like to support these departments. Our contribution is a symbol of gratitude to the men and women who risk their lives to serve our community.”

Hurricane Sandy, the largest tropical storm recorded in the Atlantic, made landfall in the United States on October 29 with winds of 80 mph. The death toll in the United States is more than 100. Sandy is estimated to have caused billions of dollars in property damage and lost business, making it one of the costliest natural disasters on record in the United States.

“Corporate citizenship is the cornerstone of Evonik’s operations,” said Tom Bates, president of Evonik Degussa Corporation. “Evonik is actively involved in helping make the quality of life in local communities better by participating in non-profit, charitable and community organizations. We appreciate the emergency responders’ dedication and commitment to the protection and care of our employees and neighbors. This is our chance to give back to the community.”
