  • over 30 production sites
  • 7 R&D Centers

Recent developments:

  • In March of 2024, Evonik annuonced that it is expanding production of precipitated silica at its Charleston site by 50 percent. The new line in South Carolina is satisfying the high demand in particular from the tire industry in North America and makes the supply chains of Evonik partners in the region resilient by enabling local silica sourcing.
  • In November of 2023, Evonik announced that it is building a new plant to produce ultra-high purity colloidal silica at its site in Weston, Michigan, which is expected to generate a total capital spending of $7.9 million in 2023 and 2024.
  • In March of 2023, Evonik broke ground on its lipid production facility for mRNA-based therapies in Lafayette, Ind. Evonik is investing $220 million in partnership with the U.S. government to build the new facility at the Tippecanoe site. The U.S. government is funding the plant with up to $150 million through its Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) to strengthen the nation’s vaccine preparedness.
  • In the fall of 2022, Evonik opened a new Innovation Hub at its Allentown, Pa., site. The Hub consists of several state-of-the-art testing and processing labs as well as a pilot plant. It also features a newly designed collaboration space to support a hybrid and creative work environment. The expansion will create 50 highly paid jobs for scientists, engineers, and lab technicians in the Lehigh Valley region around Allentown.
  • In the spring of 2022, Evonik resumed operations at its Mepron® plant in Mobile, Ala, meaning it will once again supply the U.S. milk and dairy markets from a local source. Mepron® is a special methionine formulation which prevents degradation in the rumen and fosters balanced nutrient supply of dairy cows.
  • In 2021, Evonik completed a significant capacity expansion of its sodium methylate production facility in Mobile, Ala. With the expansion, the production unit will now be capable of producing up to 90,000 metric tons per year. The growing usage of biodiesel and the decarbonization path defined by the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) policies led Evonik to invest in this expansion.
  • In 2020, Evonik successfully closed the acquisition of PeroxyChem. PeroxyChem is a manufacturer of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and peracetic acid (PAA) and is well-positioned in high-margin specialty applications. PeroxyChem's H2O2 and PAA business focuses on end-users in the environmental, food safety, and electronics semiconductor industries.
